The Life of a Teacher

Thank you for visiting my blog! I am hoping you find this website useful as we all continue to find new and effective strategies to teach the ever growing ESL populations in our schools.

About me:

I graduated in December 2009 with a BA degree in Elementary Education and Middle School Math Endorsement at Marian University in Indianapolis, IN. I played tennis and basketball for Marian University. I broke the record for the Most Single Wins in a Season in 2007 and beat my record in 2008.
I began my teaching career in January 2010 for a maternity leave position in Kongiganak, Alaska for Lower Kuskokwim School District. I taught at Ayagina’ar Elitnaurvik for a 2/3 split. Second grade is the first year students are not taught in the Yup’ik language and are fully emerged into English so my entire class were ESL students. Fall 2010 I went back to Kongiganak to teach a 4/5 split. I coached the Jr. High Co-ed basketball team both years.
After teaching in Alaska for a year and a half I moved to Louisville, KY. Here I taught at Western Middle, the School for the Arts (WMSFA). Fall 2011- Spring 2013 I taught 6th grade Mathematics. Since Fall 2013 I have taught 7th grade Mathematics. I have been the Western Co-ed Varsity soccer team each year. Last season we placed first for our conference and in tournament play made it to the finals and placed second.
I began my quest for a Teacher Leader Master’s degree with an ESL endorsement in the Fall of 2015 at Georgetown College in Georgetown, KY.
I have been married for 6 years and we are currently expecting our first child this October.

Please leave me comments if you have useful strategies I can add to my blog.
